Discussion of advice given by Esther Bowes Cox of Philadelphia to her daughter, Mary Cox Chesnut of Camden, S.C.; Cox's letters, 1796-1814, discussed family news and offered opinions on courtship, marriage, childbirth, and related topics, including Chesnut's difficulties with breast feeding. Mary Cox Chesnut (1775-1864) was mother-in-law of famous diariest Mary Boykin Miller Chesnut (1823-1886).
